What Is It Anyway?

What is a debate anyway?

At the start of a debate the people involved must agree on a topic. For the purpose of this example (and other than that, no purpose whatsoever) I will use the topic Bananas are better than Strawberries. Go ahead, laugh. Now the group must be divided into two teams (and when I say divided, I don't mean split in half). One team will argue Against and the other will argue For. The For team will argue that bananas are better, and the other will argue that they're not.
The teams should write out reasons why their team is right. These are called points. The debate will need two podiums. Each team needs a podium, so that the members can take turns to argue their points.

A good idea would be to have a Debating Book if you decide to do one yourself, so that you can record any of the points you make up!

An Update, an Argument and Some Cash

Sorry to disappoint you, but the cash is part of the debate.

Well, the debate is Money vs Environment; which matters most (brilliant idea thanks to yours truly). Naturally, the Environment side looks (and is) much better than the other side, Money, but that was always going to be a problem. That's the whole point of debating! Well, not really. But it's still pretty darn important! Sometime you're just lobbed at some random team, and even if you hate your side and think the total opposite, you've just got to go on! For those of you who haveb't heard of a debate before in your entire life, hear it now on this very blog! In fact, you might as well just go straight to the currently non-existent post What is it anyways?, because... well because that's the kind of guy I am, okay?
What's that? Oh, my cat would like to leave a mesage.

Well, just as long as you don't ask me what that meant... If you're wondering why I crossed out the "well" (oh no- not another one!) is because I think it is being used continuesly, and it's about time somone got rid of them! Hey, did you know that 'like' is, like, one of the most used words in Ireland? Well, maybe not officially. This is what I mean about off-topic...

A Starting Point...of Sorts

Hi and, um, welcome to the club?

Well, it's not really a club. It's more of a... well, I'll get back to you on that. The point is that in this...group, shall we put it, we, um, debate. I can practically sense you yawning, but don't worry, this is much more fun than you may (and do) think. We choose a topic, and then the group is split up into two groups who (you guessed it) debate about it!
This blog will let you know all our antics... but don't worry (again- why do I have to keep reassuring you people?) because we will also post up the usual sort of off-topic conversations that our class in particular are extremely well-renowned for (this is the point where you applaud...Some people just need to be told!).
