What Is It Anyway?

What is a debate anyway?

At the start of a debate the people involved must agree on a topic. For the purpose of this example (and other than that, no purpose whatsoever) I will use the topic Bananas are better than Strawberries. Go ahead, laugh. Now the group must be divided into two teams (and when I say divided, I don't mean split in half). One team will argue Against and the other will argue For. The For team will argue that bananas are better, and the other will argue that they're not.
The teams should write out reasons why their team is right. These are called points. The debate will need two podiums. Each team needs a podium, so that the members can take turns to argue their points.

A good idea would be to have a Debating Book if you decide to do one yourself, so that you can record any of the points you make up!
